Here we announce the inauguration of the opening of the first ever writing center at Tribhuvan University.
Background:
Tribhuvan University’s
Central Department of English is well known throughout the country and has
international recognition as well. There are thousands of students enrolling
yearly in the English department. We all know the background of the English
department that till Bachelors level we don’t have to write papers and even at
various Masters level program writing a term-paper writing was not mandatory
till TU introduced semester system MA. No writing means the barring of the
developing a student’s writing skills. As term paper has been introduced in the
Masters level, the fresh undergraduate will be in confusion about everything
about paper writing. Many a times it creates a serious problem in students and
as well as frustration.
Paper writing deals with a
lot of things that are it research topic, writing format or the way it is
written and the way topic is researched. Certainly, teachers do help the
students with this. Just to give more understanding of writing to the students,
assisting them with the writing project there is the need of Writing Center at
Tribhuvan University.
This is the first ever Writing Center
established in Tribhuvan University by a group of MPHIL students and is a
historical move that is dedicated and focused to the students, helping students
to grow more in the field of writing.
Concept of Writing Center
The Writing center will provide
opportunities for Masters of English students to improve writing and thinking
skills in their academic work. This would be voluntary “Peer Tutoring” at its
beginning. The tutors at the Writing Center are the students of M.PHIL who have
committed for volunteering for the fellow friends and students and are ready to
help with writing in the disciplines.
The Center will provide assistance at
all the stages of the composing process. Writing Center Peer Tutors will assist
students the process, from finding a topic through drafting, revising, and
final editing. The center will also be holding workshops regarding writing,
discussions over books, poetries, fiction that is related to the literature and
English.
The Center aims to provide comfortable
and supportive atmosphere for a student who will be talking and discussing
about the paper, research topic or anything that is related to the writing and
expressing to the fellow Peer Tutors. In return the talk will help the students
with bright ideas in producing papers that will also help the university’s name
to shine.
Peer Tutors can also help
with the writers’ block, audience awareness, argumentation, organization,
grammar, research skills, the conventions of academic writing, and issues of
